Ethernet / GigE / Metro Ethernet
Internet connectivity at one of our carrier grade facilities
FastEthernet (up to 100mbps, or megabits per second) and GigEthernet (up to 1,000mbps) connections are quickly becoming the standard
to link up to the Internet. The low cost of Ethernet equipment coupled with the ease of deployment makes it the
best way to deliver Internet to your network.
Available capacities are:
- For those who want to control costs, 10 meg Ethernet is available. It is served off a 100 meg Fast Ethernet port
so that it can be switched back to 100 megs if the customer requires more capacity.
- FastE, or Fast Ethernet, provides capacity of up to 100mbps of bandwidth, and is available starting
at 1mbps. Multiple FastE connections can be put together for even greater capacity. PremiaNet can
provide you with two connections, each connected to individual core switches and backbones, to provide you
with maximum uptime in the rare case any of our switches or routers fail.
- With the accelerated growth of the Internet, GigE is now starting to become a common service. Provided via either
Cat5e wiring or fiber optic, a GigE connection offers up to 1,000mbps of capacity, enough to handle millions
of visitors to your web site and thousands of simultaneous movie and music downloads. GigE is available starting
at 100mbps of capacity.
- Telco circuits are also available within any of our facilities, ranging from a T1 all the way to an OC-192 circuit.
What is the process involved?
- Your servers would be located in the same building as one of our primary network nodes (contact us for
Colocation services at any of our locations. If you want this service at
your location, see below).
- Cat5e or fiber optic would be delivered to your server rack(s).
- If PremiaNet is your only provider, our connection would be linked to your switch, to which all your servers will
be connected to. A Cisco switch is preferred and can be provided by PremiaNet.
- If you have multiple connections to the Internet (multi homed network) and you are adding PremiaNet to your
connection pool, PremiaNet will provide full BGP peering into your router.
- If you have a single connection with a competitor, PremiaNet can provide the equipment necessary to balance
traffic between PremiaNet's link and your existing provider.
What is the cost?
- Costs depend on location, as Internet connectivity in some network nodes is less expensive than in others.
Metro Ethernet: Ethernet and GigE Internet at your location
Every office building needs Internet access, but cheap solutions such as DSL and cable suffer from constant
downtime and lack of security. Residential customers, which are mixed with business customers on the same network,
can quickly spread viruses and worms to your desktop computers and servers, dangers of distributed denial of service
(DDoS) attacks are compounded, mass spam mailers flood the lines with traffic affecting your connection, etc.
In summary, any Internet connection shared with residential customers is dangerous.
